A Rundown Of Workouts And The New Secondary

Player write up on summer workouts:

I’m not going to lie, these past few weeks have been the dog days of summer for BYU Football. The strength staff has put us through some of our toughest workouts we’ve had in the past couple years here. The intensity and attention to detail is higher than we’ve ever had it.

What’s even better is that throughout this Summer there has been a bar of expectation that has been raised higher through out the whole program. Some of the veterans have really stepped up, specifically in their position groups, to make sure that everyone is locked in for this upcoming fall camp.

A newcomer you got to look out for is Jonathan Kabeya, who has got the skillset to make a big impact soon in the secondary of the defense and on special teams.

The Quarterback room got a whole lot better once McCae came into town, and the whole room is continuing to improve. Veterans like Jakob Robinson, Chase Roberts, Tyler Batty, Conner Pay, Hinckley Ropati, and John Nelson have elevated the whole team through their work ethic and leadership.

We even got our schedule posted up on the big screen of the weight room every day to keep us locked in at the task at hand. We are in a lot better shape and mindset as a team than we were a year ago, and the games in the fall will prove this out.

Editors notes:

A lot of new comers we have been excited to see arrived mid June, so we don’t have much info on them at BYU other than them doing team lifts and workouts. Satuala, Leach and Kabeya were among them.

There is a lot of talk about the new DBs coming in being the best secondary class ever to enter the program at once. Players like Prassas and Alexander came early enough to participate in spring ball and really turned some heads. I think both of those two will play in games very early in the season.

All three who came late are expected to play well and will likely find themselves getting game time experience in Jay Hills defense this year as well.

The starters at corner will almost undoubtedly be Jakob Robinson and Marque Collins (Weber state transfer). Marque is coming off an injury and missed spring ball. A comment about Marque I most commonly hear is that will be a great D1 coach someday. He is very experienced and has been spending all his time during spring teaching Tre Alexander some veteran tips.

I expect Micah Harper to fill in for Eddie Heckard’s position and to be backed by Koa Eldredge and Kabeya. I think you’ll see a number of guys play the safety positions.

I hope you all had or having a great 4th and appreciate all you do for to support. Fall camp is coming very fast and the best time to be a subscriber is always during camp or the season. I already have it worked out to get you in depth practice coverage, reports and video break downs all camp long. We are even going to have a weekly podcast to give you live content too.

So stay tuned it going to be a lot of fun. Go Cougs!!
