Takeaways And Goals, A Player Insider Report By Harrison Taggart

★INSIDER

Out with the old and in with the new… 2023 was a bit rough, we had our ups and our downs. Most of all for me and the team I think we learned more and grew more as team than ever before. Thinking about my favorite game from 2024 had to have been when we went down to Arkansas to play in SEC country. For me this game was so cool to see how well BYU fans showed up for away games (not going to say travel, learned there are BYU fans everywhere). The next part of the season that I learned and thought was very cool was the singing before the games. There is nothing like 170 college football players singing Taylor Swift as loud and as proud as they can.

Going into this upcoming year I have big personal goals, but even bigger than personal goals are team goals. From a personal perspective, I hope to slim down a bit but still stay around 230lbs. I want to become faster side to side and still maintain my straight line speed. I also want to be able to understand the ‘ins and outs’ of the playbook to know exactly what I am doing no matter the play or the audible, but I also to be able to know what all the people are doing around me that way I can help my team out and be a more dynamic player. As a team I want to see our team chemistry be unreal this year. That's a place that I felt we lacked with so many newcomers whether they are back from a mission, transfers or freshman. So we definitely have an opportunity to grow and bond even closer as a team, something I’m really looking forward to doing. I also want to see us work on our strength and size as I really enjoy the weightroom and believe this makes a big difference on and off the field. Last, developing the mindset and attitude that we are playing for each other, I think that helps drive team chemistry.
