Well, we just completed the first quarter of the college football season. With three quarters to go, we’ve already seen one twist: Mike Gundy being let go mid-season on a Tuesday. After 21 years at the helm with loads of memorable quotes and interviews, he’s out after two rough starts in back-to-back seasons. I had read somewhere that his buyout is $15 million. So I’m sure he will land on his feet and be just fine. Honestly, though, he’s one coach I respected and loved hearing from.
Now let’s get on to BYU’s status at this point in the season. After Week 4, we’re at 3-0 with lots to be pleased about. Defense is as good as advertised, maybe even better. The offensive line has taken a big step forward, which was always my reason to be optimistic this season. I felt like in Year 2 of TJ Woods, we’d really see growth there. We have a great two-headed monster at RB, we have a star TE in Carsen Ryan, and vets at WR.
