The 2023 BYU football season has come to an end, and we have seen some incredible things from our newest transfers. Almost all 21 transfers have seen playing time this season and the majority of them have also made and been a part of big plays! One of those big play makers has been Aidan Robbins. Although Aidan had a rib injury early in the season and wasn’t able to play much until the Texas Tech game, he has put up big numbers and has shown us why the Cougars fought for him in the transfer portal.
So why did he pick BYU to finish his college career at? “ I chose BYU for a variety of reasons, and there is a long end game to my decision. I had a great relationship with the coaches, and I was very interested in the MBA program at BYU because it is a very credible program. I also chose BYU because of the history of success BYU has with other running backs, and I wanted to be a part of that. I never forgot my recruitment experience back in 2018.” Believe it or not but Aidan had BYU in his final options, when deciding where he wanted to attend after high school, but ultimately chose University of Louisville in the end.
Aidan has been all over the field when it comes to the positions he played growing up.
“When I started playing football I was about 8, and I played flag football. I ended up tackling too many kids so my parents pulled me out of flag and put me in tackle. The only problem is I was too big to be a ball carrier and they placed me on the offensive line as well as on defense.’’ It wasn’t until middle school when he started playing running back. Since then he has been one of the most reliable RB on whatever team he is on. In his whole college career Aidan has never fumbled the ball.
Since transferring from UNLV Aidan has had 101 carries for 485 yards and one touchdown in the span of 8 games. He is the second leading rusher behind LJ Martin. Robbins has become a fan favorite and it is known that when he has the ball the chains are moving and there will be no fumbles. “I love playing for BYU and in LES! Truly a great stadium with great fans. I don’t regret any decision I have made and it’s been an honor playing for byu thus far.” – Aidan
The Cougs came so close to the win against Oklahoma State. After watching the game against The University of Oklahoma the flame of hope was rekindled and even after this last lost it is clear BYU has bright days ahead! They will be hard days but those days will be worth it. During the OU game, BYU was able to really establish the run game with Aidan leading the rushing yards with 22 carries for 182 yards. At the end of the game BYU recognized the team’s seniors, both the seniors who could return for one more year and the seniors who will be moving on. Aidan has one more year of eligibility in his belt and with that he has a big choice to make, whether to come back and continue to build his stock, or enter the 2024 NFL draft. In the next 5 years Aidan sees himself either playing football for the NFL or as the director of the NFLPA. The National Football League Players Association is the labor union representing National Football League players.
It’s very clear why BYU football fought hard to recruit Aidan to the program. We hope to see him return and continue to help the Cougs succeed this next season, but wherever he ends up he will do well and make the same kind of impact he has made, not only on the field but off it as well.
